Sailing and Rowing
The Charles Henry Ashley is an open boat. You need to be prepared to be outside without protection for the duration of the trip in sun or rain and stay comfortable.
LIFEJACKETS WILL BE PROVIDED and must be worn at all times at sea.
The following are suggested:
• 1 small rucksack or bag per person and a waterproof plastic bag
• Waterproof coat and trousers
• Warm jacket/fleece
• Hat for sun or rain
• Suntan cream (high factor) or sun block
• Change of footwear
• Gloves – for warmth, rowing, hand protection against wet sheets (ropes)
Bring some snacks and either water or a flask of tea/coffee.
If you are prone to sea sickness, Stugeron from a chemist or wrist bands may help. Avoid rich, fatty food before the journey. Boiled sweets and high energy bars are useful.
THE COXSWAIN IS IN CHARGE OF THE BOAT – HIS INSTRUCTIONS MUST BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES.
