Charles Henry Ashley historic lifeboat is currently safely under cover in her winter storage at The Firs, a site which has generously been provided from Horizon through a lease to Cemaes Boat Club.
A small team of regular volunteers is working with our Boatswain Graham Booth to maintain and repair her ready for the 2024 sailing and rowing season. The team meets every Saturday morning and undertakes all the different tasks required – cleaning, sanding, painting, varnishing – as well as enjoying a panad in good company. Extra help would be greatly appreciated and if you enjoy this type of work you are really welcome to come along and join in.
We are aiming to get Charles Henry Ashley ready for the middle of April when the Boat Club will be welcoming a visit from the Lifeboat Enthusiasts’ Society and preparing to re-launch in Cemaes harbour.
2024 will be an important year for the RNLI as it is their 200th anniversary on March 4th and a number of events are being organised to celebrate their bicentenial.
Charles Henry Ashley is planning to be involved in some of these events………which include a ‘Baton Relay’ between Moelfre and Holyhead lifeboats in June. The Boat Club is also hoping to organise some rowing competitions in Cemaes Bay and a couple of extended trips to Moelfre and Holyhead.
If you would like to take the opportunity and get involved in these events, please get in touch with us via the website or message our Facebook page. We need some strong crews to ensure that all these plans are successful and we would love to welcome new members to the Boat Club. Come and join us!
