CHA in Lockdown
When the weather was so beautiful over the past weeks, it seemed such a shame that we couldn’t take Charles Henry Ashley out onto the water. But as we are all aware, the Covid 19 pandemic has meant that many activities have necessarily been cancelled.
Cemaes is such a beautiful place – and we’re so lucky to be located in this lovely community.
Cemaes Boat Club have made the decision that as lockdown gradually eases and we are able to work safely (following the Covid 19 guidance and regulations for Wales), we should be able to resume the maintenance programme in August to repair the stern – and then concentrate on ensuring that the boat is in pristine condition ready for a future re-launch in April/May 2021.
We have been in receipt of a grant of £350 from Shell due to our contact with John Harrison, a member who is a retired Shell employee, and this has been allocated to materials for repairs.
Another grant has been received from Magnox for £550 – and this is a match-funded grant which enables us to purchase a complete set of 12 new lifejackets and a walkie talkie set.
As we are a voluntary organisation, we rely on membership subscriptions, grants as above, and social fund-raising activities to provide the finances to support the Club.
We have already received a number of membership subscriptions – and we really appreciate this support. (Especially as we won’t have an opportunity to sail/row this season.)
If you haven’t yet renewed your membership, please consider this as a contribution to maintaining the CHA for the future.
All you have to do is register on the website (many of you have already done this) and then arrange for a BACS transfer to:
Clwb Cychod Cemaes CHA Cemaes Boat Club
Sort Code 40-08-26
Account Number 61149997
Please reference the payment with your name.
Alternatively, you can download an application form from the website and send it with a cheque (made out to ‘Clwb Cychod Cemaes CHA Cemaes Boat Club’) to Sian Jones, our Membership Secretary, at Oriel Cemaes, 16, High Street, Cemaes Bay, Anglesey LL67 0HH.
Sian has offered to help anyone with their on-line membership application and you can contact her by email on sian666@live.co.uk or phone her on 01407 711300.
We really appreciate all your past support and hope that you will feel able to continue to help to maintain Charles Henry Ashley through these difficult times.
A recent Zoom meeting was held on 9.7.20, and the notes from this meeting have been posted online. (Please click on this link to read).
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or queries.
As soon as we have any date for continued maintenance in August, we will contact our volunteers.
In the meantime we look forward to times when we can all meet together again.
Stay safe,
Marilyn Downs
